After three nights on Mackinac Island we made the short jaunt over to Mackinaw City to refuel for our trip into Lake Michigan. Straits Harbor is a very nice facility. The staff here are really helpful and do a great job at the fuel dock. They also have great accommodations, both 50 amp and 30 amp service, nice lounge area, and very nice shower and laundry facilities. WiFi is strong at all parts of the harbor.
While there we ran into another Back Cove – a 2018 41 footer from Marblehead, Ohio – ‘Hellion’. Of course we exchanged stories about the boats and how well suited they are for cruises like this. After that discussion, the bikes were out and we took a ride around the lakeshore over to the Mackinac Bridge. Upon our return to the boat, the parents of Kim, of “Scotty and Kim” – ‘C’ Dockers back at our home port, walked over to say hi and to share stories of their trip up as well as to catch up on ours. We had a great discussion about that and our boats (they have a Mainship) and strategized on how to dodge the sailboats coming up from the Chicago to Mackinac race the following morning. We did a simple barbecue under the Picnic cover by our slip (Hot Dogs – Erica’s favorite) as we had severely over indulged while on the island, then settled in for the evening.
Assuming good weather in the morning we plan to head into Lake Michigan and down to Leland.
